Hands-on science in action!
Year 10 Science classes delved into the world of robotics this week with the Women in Engineering group from the University of Auckland.
Fun workshops with Spheros and Ozobots meant using problem solving, creativity, critical and analytical thinking, plus coding skills.
Spheros are programmable spheres which students code and then 鈥榙rive鈥 around a road map 鈥 staying in their lane and navigating some sharp turns 鈥 to complete the challenge. It鈥檚 harder than it looks 鈥 and is also heaps of fun!
Ozobots also teach basic coding. Students draw coded colour sequences on a map (meaning left, right, straight ahead, do a u-turn, etc) and the Ozobot鈥檚 programmable optical sensors respond to the sequenced instructions to reach the finish line.
The Women in Engineering group also ran a lunchtime presentation about studying engineering for our senior students.
